Girl Scout Troop 140117 Visits W5RRR
A terrific group of scouts and leaders/moms visited our JSCARC W5RRR shack on Monday Oct 20. Hosting the scouts were Jeff AB4ME, Kelvin K5KGH, David KB5PGY and Dave W5OC.
We tooks the opportunity to show them an excellent ARRL video, “what is ham radio” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDn-6SDxyD4 followed by an excellent overview of NASA by Jeff AB4ME. Kelvin K5KGH, our primary outreach representative shared his insights about ham radio and we ended the tour with David KB5PGY giving a few of the scouts an exciting opportunity to chat live on-the-air.
There seemed to be verbal interest to give the scouts a chance to get licensed and perhaps participate in similar activities which we have been providing the JSCARC interns.
Special thanks to Kelvin K5KGH for his hand printed color photos and narrative handouts for the visitors, and also thanks to Ana KI5SDP, the ISS Ham Radio Project Coordinator for providing a variety of very nice pins and handout souvenirs. Lastly, thanks to Kristin Fitzpatrick, the Senior Girl Scout troop leader who did a terrific job coordinating the visit.
