2 POTA Activations by 3 JSCARC Members (addendum)

Hey Dave & all,
A few more pics and details.

In addition to activating Brazos Bend State Park on Saturday, Nov 1st, over the past 3 days, I activated 4 parks; Palmetto State Park (US-3045), Lockhart State Park (US-3033), Bastrop State Park (US-2986), and Buescher State Park (US-2993).

My wife and I departed on our own version of the Texas BBQ Trail tour, Part 1 starting Tuesday with a POTA activation in Palmetto State Park followed by lunch at the Luling City Market (in Luling). Spoiler…this was the best BBQ we had the whole trip (see pic).   We visited some places my wife wanted to see then hit The Original Black’s Barbecue for dinner.

Wednesday started with breakfast at Tacos El Tapatio (HIGHLY recommended if in Lockhart), then a POTA activation in Lockhart State Park followed by lunch at Smitty’s Market. After some sightseeing, we had dinner at Kreuz’s Market and this was the best BBQ we had of the 3 we tried in Lockhart.

Thursday we again had breakfast at Tacos El Tapatio, then headed out for Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park, then headed home.

POTA equipment was my trusty FT-891, DigiRig interface, MacBook Pro, and JPC-12 vertical antenna. I recently purchased an 18′ whip for the JPC-12 to replace the coil & stock 10′ whip for use on 20m & up.  Still need the coil for 30m & 40m but the longer whip without the coil seems to perform better on 20m.

These were all new parks for me so had to scout out good places to setup and get on the air.  Had no problem with that and the weather was perfect all 3 days.  If you want to know my opinion of the BBQ joints, catch me at a meeting.
