| This QSL card has been in use since 1982 as our generic, all-purpose QSL card. During the first four Space Shuttle flights, STS-1, -2, -3, and -4, we issued individual mission cards to commemorate those flights. It was just too labor intensive to develop and get printed a new card for each Space Shuttle flight, so the generic card was adopted. |
| The images on the card include a view of the 'old' Mission Control Center Flight Control Room #1 (upper-left), a view looking out of the shuttle orbiter's aft-looking flight deck windows (lower-left), a shuttle launch picture (middle), an Edwards, CA, dry lakebed Shuttle landing picture (upper-right) and a view of our old HF console and operating position at W5RRR (lower-right). |
In the picture of the station, you can see some of the equipment used at W5RRR when the picture was taken in the early 80's. Check our W5RRR Station webpage for the current equipment setup.

Four test flights were conducted to certify the Space Shuttle orbiters for operational flight readiness. These cards were issued to W5RRR contacts to commemorate those flights. |
