The next club meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 8,
2005 at “Sweet Mesquite – A South Texas Grill”, 2412 Bay Area Boulevard
in the back meeting room of the restaurant. A scheme is to arrive
at 6 PM and have dinner before the meeting. Our normal meeting
schedule is the last Thursday of each month.

JSCARC September Meeting – Cancelled due to events associated with
Hurricane Rita.
JSCARC October Meeting Minutes
The meeting on October 27, 2005 was held at the
Sweet Mesquite Restaurant. The meeting was called to order at 6:35
p.m. by President
Leslie Eaton, KD5DYY. There were 8 members
and 2 guests in attendance.
Secretary/Treasurer Ken, K5RG, reported that there were14 paid members
for GFY 2006. For GFY 2005 the club’s membership stood at 43 paid
members. The combined JSC Federal Credit Union accounts have a
balance of $1,016.58 The annual officer liability policy is due in
November which will be an expenditure of $325.
COMMITTEES:
Repeater – Larry, WD8KUJ reported no changes, normal operation. The
club’s spare repeater antenna is being stored in Building 16.
ARISS – School contact made with the Tomioka Elementary School in Urayasu
City, Japan on October 24th. The International Space Station
commander, Bill McArthur, KC5ACR is making many contacts, even calling CQ
at times.
Skywarn – The Skywarn net is conducted on the JSCARC repeater, Thursday
at 8 PM and will be in operation this evening.
OLD BUSINESS:
New Shack – Nick, KC5KBO reported that there was nothing new to
report. The new jogging track at Gilruth is in place. Nick
indicated that it took an effort to prepare the shack equipment for
Hurricane Rita (covered with plastic and ‘safed’ as much as
possible). He felt that an advance plan for future preparations
should be put in place to avoid problems at the last minute.
NEW BUSINESS:
GFY ’06 Officers – Discussion centered on finding volunteers for the
officer slots. Ken, K5RG sent out a general appeal and received an
offer for QSL Manager currently staffed by Vince, KA8UDO. This is
an appointed position. Larry, WD8KUJ stated his willingness to
serve as President and Kyle, KG4YUQ indicated his willingness to serve as
Vice President and Program Chair. The Secretary-Treasurer position
is still open. Formal elections will be held in December at the
next club meeting.
Shack Familiarization – A number of new members indicated that they would
like to have a tour of W5RRR’s equipment and resources. It was
decided to have a shack tour at 11:30 AM right after the Saturday,
December 12th VEC session at Gilruth. Nick (KC5KBO), David (KB5PGY)
and Ken (K5RG) stated that they would conduct the W5RRR tour.
The business meeting was adjoined at 7:00 PM.
